A Renewed Sense of Optimism
Optimism comes from an "in control" mindset
Americans want to feel inspired, confident and optimistic about the future. Turns out we're quite a positive bunch. According to a recent study Lincoln Financial conducted called M.O.O.D. of America, optimism is on the rise. The percentage of people who express positivity is up since last time we asked in 2011. Four in five say they're optimistic about the future and almost eight in 10 are optimistic about their overall financial futures.1
Being in Control
Taking charge of our lives and adopting this powerful sense of optimism about our futures is important. People who are in control of their lives generally feel that success in life is determined by forces within their control. Turns out 68 percent of the Americans have this "in control" mindset. They spend quality time with their families and friends and focus on living a healthy lifestyle. Not surprisingly, they say being debt-free, staying within a budget, paying credit bills in full each month and putting money away for retirement were all important steps to gain control, too.
Steps in the Right Direction
We believe financial preparedness is best when it's rooted in optimism that leads to action, and it's promising that so many Americans are not only confident about the future, but are also taking steps to gain control of it. The M.O.O.D. of America study revealed interesting and unexpected insights about our feelings and actions in today's economic environment. To discover more, click on the more in-depth findings below.
